Mixed Media
During my undergraduate years at Emily Carr, I gradually transitioned from the ceramics department to the photography darkroom. Printing photos held the same excitement and license to experiment that attracted me to working with clay. With the advent of digital photography and the software programs that accompanied it, I turned from the darkroom to Photoshop. Many classes later, accompanied by rigourous practice, new digital compositions emerged. I combined the digital compositions with hand-built clay objects and framed the two together to produce a marriage between new and traditional media. The result was work that reflected both my passions through what may be perceived as an unlikely but harmonious union.
